I had my first flat tire in years yesterday heading to a Nationals game. Stupid construction zone, amazingly large pothole. Swallowed my IS's tire resulting in a pretty awful sound and a very stereotypical "phfssssssssssssssssssss" sound as the air escaped from the front right tire at highway speed. Lots of lights lit up, low tire pressure, this fun one: "!", etc. so I immediately found a nice spot on the shoulder to get to work.

I used to autocross so I have changed a lot of tires, I think it took me longer to find all the components in the trunk than to actual change out the tire. I wish I had taken a picture of the spare, it was bright yellow. Thanks Toyota. It was pretty much 10 minutes start to finish including taking everything out and loading the busted tire back in the trunk. Figuring if my day job doesn't work out, I can apply for a pit crew job. Can't be that hard right?

Spent a few hours at Mr. Tire this morning, new Goodyears all around since the stockers were pretty worn. New rear brakes too, yee haw. May have to go with the less expensive beer this weekend.

If you start an All Oppo Pit Crew, I'll join.

"The only crew that can change all four tires in the time it takes everyone else to finish the race!"

I'm assuming I'm slower than you by ten minutes because I haven't had to change a tire since driver's ed. You can be pit chief!

This. Could be something cool. I saw we practice in parking lots. I'm sure people won't mind.

A few things could happen:

1) we are absolutely ignored, just some guys struggling to change all...four...what?

2) people realize what we're up to and want to try so as well so we organize a round robin type competition

3) people realize it could very well be hilarious and pull up lawn chairs and start eating popcorn, cheering, and jeering our efforts

or

4) the cops show up after reports come in that a gang of car nerds have been spotted taking wheels and tires off of cars at the local Wal Mart.

That's why we do it in the parking lot of a BJ's. We bought the tires wholesale and had to carry them out ourselves.

Sheesh, now we are mounting them too? I'm getting tired just thinking about this. *quits the Oppo pit crew*

Without the Pit Chief heading our efforts, the All Oppo Pit Crew body withers and dies...

(a lone tear is shed...camera pans to the horizon...fade out...and scene)
